You can get to the island by plane from one of three airports, of which only Ercan is in Northern Cyprus. However, Paphos and Larnaca airports are much more common.

WizzAir or RyanAir usually fly to Cyprus from Prague, Vienna, Katowice, Wroclaw, Bratislava or Budapest (mentioned are central european locations), so it is not a problem to find cheap flights.

Tip: if you want to travel around Cyprus by car, you must be at the northern border between 9 am and 6 pm (for the first time) to pay for insurance. more info below. The journey from the airports takes 2-2.5 hours. If you don’t have time, it is better to plan a trip to the south and secure one of the southern accommodations.

Aphrodite Resort is located in the west of Northern Cyprus, not far from the border. If you drive from any airport, you can get to it very intuitively – it is literally visible through the local villages.

By taxi (need to order)

You can get to Aphrodite from the airports by taxi. Remember that if you are traveling from the south, you must book a transfer in advance. In this case, a driver will wait for you right at the flight and take you to Aphrodite. This is the most convenient option.

The cost of transportation is €100 from Larnaca, or €140 from Paphos for the entire car.

By car

For those who prefer freedom and want to travel. It is not a problem to rent a car in Paphos and Larnaca. However, it is good to make sure that they will let you drive north with the car. Also consider the time required to pick up the car.

Border crossing and insurance

The car is insured for travel in the south, but to cross the border you need to pay compulsory insurance valid in the north. This can be purchased at the border crossings, but the insurance office is only open between 9-18 (approximately), so you need to arrive during this time.

If you do not have time to buy insurance, you will not be allowed to go north, so you have to spend the night in the south. It is not possible to cross the border on foot (except at the crossing in Nicosia).

In addition, the insurance office is not at all border crossings – it is in Nicosia and Astromeritis (the second crossing is a short distance from Aphrodite).

What do you need to cross the borders?

  • passport/EU ID card
  • car rental confirmation (the rental company typically sends a link to your email), just call
  • €30 per month in cash
